Prafulla Kar gets Padma Shri Award 2015

Prafulla Kar, eminent singer and musician of Odisha, will be felicitated with Padma Shri award this year. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award is being conferred by the government of India. This year, in total, 104 people have been chosen for Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

Prafulla Kar has been selected for Padma Shri award for his outstanding contributions to the field of music. Kar directed music in more than 70 Oriya movies and four Bengali films. He received Best Music Director award from the government of Odisha on eight occasions.

Kar born in 1939 into a family of musicians, his parents Baidyanath Kar and Susila Kar gave him opportunity to learn music at early age. From childhood, he has been inspired by his father’s brother Khetra Mohan Kar, well know Tabla player.

Prafulla Kar has been in the field of music for lat four decades. He is known for his distinctive singing, compositions and lyrics. His professional Career in music took off in 1960 and he rapidly established himself as an acclaimed A-Grade Vocalist, Composer and Lyricist for All India Radio.
