Odisha Govt announces Rs 3 Lakh Reward for Purnima Hembram

Talented Odia Athlete Purnima Hembram, who won a bronze medal in Heptathlon at the Asian Athletics Championship in Wuhan, China yesterday, will receive a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh by the state government for bringing laurel to the state.

It was the first ever senior international medal won by Purnima. Her team mate Liksy Joseph of Kerala won the Silver medal in the same event. Odisha Athletic Association (OOA) honorary secretary Asirbad Behera had already announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 to Purnima.

Odisha’s Sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marandi congratulated Purnima and said that this Rs 3 lakh cash award has in accordance with the state government’s reward policy for the sportspersons.

Indian Women’s Relay Team comprising of Dutee Chand and Shrabani Nanda finished fourth and failed to get a podium finish.
