Speaker, BJD urge Congress, BJP to join Assembly Proceedings

Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: Congress and BJP legislators boycotted the House on Friday alleging the ruling party of not allowing discussion on the bills introduced. Speaker of Odisha Assembly, Nirajan Pujari urged opposition members to join proceedings.

On Thursday, the Assembly passed four bills, including crucial Odisha Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill, 2015 and the Odisha Police Bill, 2015. Opposition members demanded discussion on the bill. The Congress party opposing the Land Bill called boycott and BJP members alleged the Speaker of House of favoring ruling party. Ruling BJD urged the agitating members to join proceedings of the Odisha Assembly.  The speaker adjourned the house till 3 PM.

Opposition leader Narsingh Mishra called on Governor on Friday and requested to disapprove bills passed in the Odisha Assembly in the absence of opposition members.
