Stern Official Action on Good Work of NGOs Help Flourish Dubious Units

By Janakiballav Dash: Government lapses in administrative mechanism led to develop a culture of top officials in Odisha in patronising all dubious NGOs while slamming the meritorious work of few good NGOs discloses a study jointly compiled by VANI (Voluntary Agency Network in India) & CA (Credibility Alliance).

Thee study further reveals that many top officials of Odisha government are reportedly running shadow NGOs in the names of their kith & kins, thus draining a large chunk of development funds to themselves, which is a dangerous situation.

The study said when top officials sanction the file & also enjoying the fruits (funds) themselves than there lacks a crisis of accountability by these officials. Thus few officials in Odisha government are ultimately racking the benefits meant for the masses. These top officials are also utilising their power and positions to get foreign funds from abroad.

While some good and committed works of few grassroot NGOs have always been slammed by these dishonest high officials who has a sort of subversive effects on good NGOs. The study compiled few glaring instances where it is shown that few top government officials in the state have all on a sudden misused their power on committed NGOs doing meaningful work in some tribal regions on the vested directions of these top officials.

The NGO functionaries were handcuffed, arrested and taken in public parade so that people’s faith on these NGOs get weakened. Such criminal conspiracy by 2 IAS has already gaining ground before the authorities the Credibility Alliance study said. While the govt’s departmental NGOs works amidst most unaccountable & irresponsible manner there by draining millions of development funds to the pockets of these few top officials of Odisha government, like the recent unearthing scam of about Rs 200 crore of central funds through dubious OKCL it added.

Though these high officials are eager to blame on good works of NGOs their inaction or no-action against dubious ones have resulted into rise of such once -in-a-blue-moon NGOs in several areas. It is amazing that these top officials do not take time to close the office of good NGOs by forcible means but when it comes to taking action against dubious ones the government has no action so far. These established trends in Odisha that only dubious can thrive in the NGO sector snatching the works of good ones.
