Weather Update: Odisha Govt puts Collectors on alert; Farmers warned Statewide

ONI Bureau:  In view of heavy rainfall in Odisha during the next 48 hours under the influence of a deep depression, the Special Relief Commissioner issued an advisory for the farmers to protect their standing crops.

Though the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in all the 30 districts, heavy rainfall has predicted in six districts of southern parts of Odisha.

According to the advisory, farmers have been advised to reap the paddy, keep those covered in the paddy yard.

However, the collectors have been asked to inform the farmers to shift harvested crops to safer places and take necessary steps to keep crops safe from being wasted.

A heavy rainfall warning (yellow warning) has been issued for four districts including Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Kalahandi on December 16.

Similarly, heavy rainfall warning issued for Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Nuapara, Bargarh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur of Odisha on December 17.

However, fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep Sea areas in southwest & adjoining west central Bay of Bengal on December 16 and December 17.
