Women Reservation Bill proposed by BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik

The Women Reservation Bill, which was passed in the year 2018 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, attempts to implement 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State assemblies. The Rajya Sabha had passed the Constitution 108th Amendment Bill in 2010, however, the Bill ceased after the dissolution of the 15th Lok Sabha in 2014.

In a letter written to CM Naveen Patnaik, the UN Women praised-

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support extended by your government in implementation of the joint programme between UN Women & the Panchayati Raj Department, Govt of Odisha to promote Gender Responsive Governance in the state.”
