World Food Programme Team to review MDM Scheme in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: A six-member delegation of World Food Programme led by its head Mirjana Kave is on visit to Odisha to review the implementation of Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme in the state. The delegation held meeting with various officials hre before starting their review tour to four districts including Cuttack and Kendrapara.

The delegation will visit various schools in the four district to review the MDM scheme. After completing their review of the implantation for MDM Scheme in the four districts, the delegation will submit its report to the central government as well as the Odisha government.

The delegation has given some suggestions – equipping vehicles, being used for MDM Scheme, with GPS and putting expiry date on the packets, in order to improve the quality of the scheme. The delegation head Mirjana Kave also discussed about hygienic conditions at schools.

According to reports, Odisha government has spent Rs.2969 crore in last four years under Mid Day Meal Scheme with contribution of more than Rs.2200 crore from the Central government. The MDM scheme is being implemented at 62, 642 schools in Odisha covering around 55, 41,283 students. The state government has spent 2969 crore 48 lakh 34 thousand rupees during 2011-12 to 2014-15 under the scheme.
