Australia beat India by 34 runs in 1st ODI

ONI Bureau: The top order Indian batsmen disappointed today, as India went down to Australia by 34 runs in the first ODI in Sydney. With this, Australia took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 288/5 in 50 overs. Alex Carey (24), Usman Khawaja (59), Shaun Marsh (54), Peter Handscomb (73) and Marcus Stoinis (47*) were the top scorers. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each.

Chasing a victory target of 289, India lost three wickets for just four runs on board. Dhawan (0), Kohli (3) and Rayudu (0) disappointed a lot. Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni added 137 runs for the fourth wicket. However, Dhoni batted very slow before getting dismissed at 51 off 96 balls. Rohit scored 133, as India could score 254/9 in 50 overs.

For Australia, Jhye Richardson took 4 wickets, while Jhye Richardson and Marcus Stoinis took 2 wickets each. Jhye Richardson was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
