Belgium, Netherlands in Semifinals; Germany, India out of HWC 2018

ONI Bueau: Belgium and Netherlands moved to the semifinals of Hockey World Cup 2018 while Germany and India crashed out of the tournament with a good fight in their respective quarterfinal matches.

In the first game, Belgium defeated Germany 2-1. Dieter Linnekogel of Germany scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute. However, Belgium equalized in the 18th minute through a goal by Alexander Hendrickx. Tom Boon scored the winning goal for Belgium in the 50th minute. Arthur Van Doren of Belgium was declared ‘Man of the Match’.

Same trend continued in the second quarterfinals too. India opened the account with a goal by Akashdeep Singh in the 12th minute. Thierry Brinkman scored the equalizer in the 15th minute. Mink Van Der Weerden scored the winning goal in the 50th minute. India tried their best when Goalkeeper Sreejesh took off his pad to attack as a forward. But, India had to end up on the losing side. Surender Kumar was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’.

England will play Belgium in the first semifinal on December 15. In the second semifinal, Australia will take on Netherlands. Final will be played on December 16.
