Defending champions India, four time champions Australia, 7th time featuring in a semi final New Zealand and the mighty but infamous for ‘choker’ reputation South Africa have made it to the top contender list for Cricket’s ultimate trophy ‘The World Cup’.
However, it’s not just them who have been capturing headlines; there are more recognisable efforts to be cheered. Associate nations have really impressed everyone and team like Ireland has definitely made its mark. Their fabled run chase against England in the last edition cannot be termed as fluke; they chased down another big total of 300 plus against West Indies in this edition.
Even after all this, Bowling has given its own figure that is incredible perfermance. India has been successfully able to bowl out the opposition 7 times in a row. Tim Southee, Mitchell Starc, Mohammed Shami, Wahab Riaz have checked the opposition batsmen irrespective of result.
More importantly, England’s fast bowler Steven Finn and South Africa’s JP Duminy took hat-trick against Australia and Sri Lanka respectively. Contrary to belief about Australian and New Zealand pitches spinners are among the top wicket takers.
Now, the tournament has reached with best quartet of teams. New Zealand and South Africa are already reasonably well matched, while conditions in Sydney give India much more of a chance against host Australia. However, more actions are yet to be unfolded over the week.
