Gone, Just Like That: Mahendra Singh Dhoni Retires

“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired” – a one-line instagram post is all that Mahendra Singh Dhoni wrote to announce his retirement. The post was captioned on a photo slideshow of the batsman-keeper.

The announcement was enough to send the cricket fraternity, his fans in a tizzy, as it came at the most unexpected moment. People shared the memorable knock of his career and sent him best wishes. Here are some of the tweets in his honour.

MS Dhoni made him ODI debut in 2004 against Bangladesh and played his first Test against Sri Lanka in 2005. He is the only captain in the history of cricket to win all ICC trophies – 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, 2010 & 2016 Asia Cups, the 2011 ICC World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. MS Dhoni played his last ODI on July 9, 2019 against New Zealand.

MS Dhoni will however, continue to play the IPL for Chennai Super Kings.
