Kohli, Rohit power India to 8-wicket win over West Indies in 1st ODI

ONI Bureau: Shimron Hetmyer’s 78-ball 106 went in vain, as Indian batting superpowers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli demolished the West Indies bowling attack to power their team to an 8-wicket victory in the first ODI in Guwahati. With this, India take a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bowl first. West Indies posted 322/8 in 50 overs. Apart from Shimron Hetmyer (106), Kieran Powell (51), Shai Hope (32) and Jason Holder (38) contributed their bit. For India, Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets, while Shami and Jadeja took 2 wickets each.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan disappointed, as he departed for just 4. However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli added 246 runs for the second wicket to take the game away from the West Indies.

India reached 326/2 in just 42.1 overs to win the match by 8 wickets. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 152 off 117 balls with 15 boundaries and 8 sixes. Virat Kohli made 140 off 107 balls ith 21 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Virat Kohli was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
