New International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela To be Named After Birsa Munda

The proposed hockey stadium in Rourkela for the 2023 Men’s World Cup will be named after freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister made the announcement while laying the foundation stone of the Birsa Munda stadium. The stadium will be constructed in cost-effective design and will be the largest in the country. It is expected to have a seating capacity of 20,000 spectators.

The constructed site is located inside the campus of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology and adjacent to the air strip.

Earlier, a delegation of officials from the FIH and the Hockey India had visited to review the stadium site.
