India hockey captain Manpreet Singh, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 last month has credited his teammates in helping him recover. Five other teammates were also diagnosed with COVID-19 along with him.
“It was not easy, especially mentally,” Manpreet said when asked about contracting the infection.

“I have not done anything for a month and that’s a long time in a sportsperson’s career,” he said, adding that his teammates were his support system.
With mild symptoms, Manpreet was hospitalised for five days and then spent isolation period in SAI, Bengaluru.
“To be honest, initially when the results came out, we were slightly stressed. But Hockey India officials, particularly the CEO Elena Norman, was quick to assure us of all the support and told us not to worry about hockey or how this will impact our future in the sport.”

Manpreet and five other teammates on completing the isolation were put through general tests. They resumed activities only after the doctors consent.
“We underwent a general check-up after two weeks of isolation. We got ECG, blood test and chest X-ray done. Only after the doctor gave us a go ahead, we began basic activities from last week,” Manpreet said.
Team India is hoping for a good show in the Olympics which has been postponed to 2021. The India captain hopes that his team would make the efforts put in by the authorities worthwhile with a good show at the Olympics.
