Bharti Airtel hikes VoIP Rates

bharti airtel Bharti Airtel decided to increase the charges on the voice over internet protocol (VoIP) player. Airtel customers would pay more making internet calls on the apps like Skype, Viber etc., using the VoIP.

On Wednesday, the company said that it would charge as much as 16 times high the rate of the normal data pack charges.

Based on standard rates, VoIP usage cost per one GB of data usage, Rs.4000 per on 3G network and Rs. 10,000 on 2G network.

Commenting on Bharti Airtel’s plan to charge separately for Internet call services (VoIP), the Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that government would come back with a structured response.

At 4pm the shares of Airtel gained by 0.07% at 354.45 on Friday. The shares were recovered from loss at 350 at 9:50 am, following announcement of hike in the VoIP rates by the company.
