BSE Sensex and Nifty tank 3 Week Low

BSE SensexBSE Sensex and NSE Nifty fell to their three week’s low on Wednesday continuing yesterday’s steepest fall. Investors lost around 3 lakh crore on Tuesday as Sensex shed around 850 points and Nifty around 200 points. Both the equity markets Sensex and Nifty lost around 3 per cent, the biggest loss since 2013.

Today, the BSE Sensex closed at 26,908.82 points down 78.64 points (0.29%) and Nifty closed at 8,102.10 points down 25.25 points (0.31%).  The global cues – the uncertainty in Greece and slumping oil prices rattled foreign as well as domestic investors that fueled selling pressure. And, domestic cues – depreciation of rupees, interest rate cut and manufacturing sectors speculations tumbled the stock markets.

On Tuesday, foreign investors sold index futures and cash shares worth Rs 2,817 crore and Rs 1,571 crore respectively. Today at BSE, among indices – BSE Small Cap gained 0.03 per cent and other indices fell – BSE 100 by 0.25 per cent, MidCap by 0.01 per cent and BSE 200 by 0.16 per cent.

Among sectoral indices at BSE, oil and gas stocks gained 1.39 per cent, auto fell by 0.06 per cent, metal stock lost heavily by 1.42 per cent and bank stock fell by 0.64 per cent. Among  the bank stocks of ICICI bank declined by 2.6 per cent while in the same segment Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited gained 1.72 per cent. Technology company stocks were declined by around 0.36 per cent.

At NSE Nifty, 22 stocks advanced and 27 stocks declined and one remain unchanged, out of total fifty stocks index. Among gainers were – Hindustan Unilever Ltd gained (3.20%), NTPC (2.69%), Reliance Industries Limited (2.32%), Asian Paints (2.19%) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (1.99%).

And losers were – Hindalco Industries Ltd (2.97%), NMDC (2.82%), BHEL (2.40%), HCL Technologies Ltd (2.35%) and GAIL (2.25%). Among sectoral indices at Nifty, auto and energy shares gained 0.08per cent and 1.22 per cent respectively. Among the sectoral indices – CNX metal stocks reported heavy loss at 1.60 per cent, Bank Nifty fell by 0.69 per cent, finance stocks lost 0.63 per cent and FMCG stocks shed 0.11 per cent.
