First Flight lands at Srinagar after three days of fog

SpiceJetSrinagar, Nov 26: The international airport here saw the first flight land on Thursday after three days of cancellations of services because of poor visibility due to fog.

“The first flight (SpiceJet) landed today (Thursday) afternoon as visibility improved making the landing possible at the airport,” an official at the airport told. Earlier, all the morning flights on Thursday were cancelled due to fog, leaving many passengers stranded.

A minimum visibility of 1,000 metres is mandatory for flights to land or take off at Srinagar international airport. The airport is not equipped with an advanced instrument landing system (AILS) as is mandatory for all international airports in the world.

Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and Lok Sabha member Mehbooba Mufti has said she would take up the issue of installing an AILS at the airport with the central defence and civil aviation ministries. (IANS)
