Paddy procurement begins in Ganjam

Paddy procurementPaddy procurement has been stated in Ganjam district on Monday with opening of mandis in all most blocks.

The Civil Supplies Officer, N K Mohanty said that the paddy procurement was much awaited in the Ganjam district and the department would target to open 355 mandis across the district for smooth paddy procurement.

The paddy procurement was made through Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies. The department would issue payee cheques to the farmers those sold their paddy at procurement centers.

Mohanty said that online payment would be made in 16 PACS under Chhatarpur block.

In Ganjam district, 52,000 farmers have been registered to supply paddy to procurement centers till date. And more farmers are likely to join the registration drive.

For the current year, the state government has set a target of 84000 tonnes rice procurement against 67000 tonnes procured last year.
