Short coverings dent Equity Markets; BSE Sensex down 126 Points

BSE SensexMumbai, Nov 10: Short coverings on the back of negative cues depressed the Indian equity markets and led the barometer 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to shed 126 points during the morning trade session on Tuesday.

Both the bellwether indices of the Indian equity markets opened in the negative territory on the back of bearish sentiments eminating out of Bihar polls outcome, heightened chances of a US rate hike and disappointing quarterly results.

The other bellwether index — 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) — declined during the session under review. It was lower by 46.25 points or 0.58 percent at 7,868.95 points.

The S&P BSE Sensex which opened 26,094.09 points, was trading at 25,995.18 points (9.35 a.m.), down 126.22 points or 0.48 percent from the previous day’s close at 26,121.4 points.

The Sensex has so far touched a high of 26,094.09 points and a low of 25,945.30 points during the intra-day trade.

The S&P BSE Sensex had closed previous day’s trade down 144 points or 0.55 percent. (IANS)
