Spectrum Auction:Govt gets Rs1.07lakh crore on 12th day

telecomThe Union Government has garnered bids worth of Rs 1.07 lakh crore from telecoms operators at the end of 12th day of Spectrum auction. Till now, 74 rounds of bidding have taken place.

An official release said, there is aggressive bidding going on in all bands of 2100 Mega Hertz, 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands.

At the end of 74th round of bidding, over 88 per cent of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders.

The ongoing auction for air waves is the biggest ever sale of spectrum by value, as intense fight among Vodafone India, Bharti AirtelBSE -0.34 %, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio Infocomm shifted from a lucrative 2G band (900 MHz) to CDMA (800 MHz) that they could use for rolling out 4G.

The previous record was set in 2010, when the government raised Rs 1.06 lakh crore by selling 3G and 4G airwaves in the first ever auction of telecom spectrum.
