Facebook Debate on Man being denied Mortuary Van in Odisha

Man-Van-OdishaDenied a Mortuary Van, a Man in Odisha’s Kalahandi district walked 10 km carrying wife’s body. It happened in Kalahandi district of Odisha. The picture and video have triggered a national outrage. Even, National TV Channels are debating this. Has it exposed the Odisha Model of Development?

Rahul Bihani: What were these reporters doing? Seems they were interested in covering this story but not help these people! Where is humanity?

Rakesh Gupta: Yes, it is the failure of Government. So many schemes on Pen and Paper, but in reality these are failure.

Sujata Dehury: More than exposing our state’s pathetic state of development, it is about basic human apathy. It shows how authorities lend a deaf ear to poor, illiterate people in remote areas. Good that it got media attention. It is heartbreaking to say the least.

Jagadish Pradhan: It is a pure failure of the Governments – both centre and state. Also, we have lost humanity here. How poor people will survive in such a society where corruption is rampant and people at the top just think about grabbing power? It’s a shame that we belong to that state, which fails to distinguish between human and animal.

Charulata Panigrahi: The real pathos is when in dire need, we people are not getting any govt help. So, what is the use of such an useless Govt and the pity is we are only crying in vain. It is the people of a state who have the power to make or break a sarkar.

Nagendra Sharma: Life is hell… Btw, which way government is responsible for arrogant officials in hospital or mortuary van driver…? These guys have to be punished and government should start thinking hiring lateral hire rather retaining such officials… On the other hand, hats off to the man who carried his wife in his arms… She is the lucky one.

BH V Nageswar Rao: The horrible incident definitely makes a dent on Odisha’s image. It shows the abject poverty and helplessness of the abysmally poor, the inhuman and high handed behavior of the babus in administration, total callousness of those at the helm of affairs to the plight of the downtrodden.

Niraj Kumar Sahoo: I will still not blame the Govt. Rather I will react on Society and the people who filmed it than helping the person. Is this journalism ??

Satyabrata Panda: Is it a model worth its name? 1,016 posts are lying vacate out of 4,682 sanctioned doctor posts in the state. As per the Indian Public Health Standard the state needs more 1,671 Health Sub-Centres, 170 PHCs and 20 Multi Specialist Hospitals. 57% of Odisha’s PHCs lack regular doctors. No single OPD is providing 6 hour mandatory health service in the state. Is it a Model ?

Satyapriya Satapathy: Very very sad to see this picture. The situation of the man and his daughter is very pathetic and inhuman. No one came forward to help them during that 10-km stretch. It’s unfortunate!

Raghunath Panda: People have lost the sense of HUMANITY.

Ashok Sharma: Now people like to reacts only in social network.

Abhijit Mishra: I may sound a little awkward…but we also have to see the story the other side…the sheer no of patient being handled by the hospitals, the post laying vacant, the overworked staff…these circumstances has resulted in high handedness of the staff… The story can be that the morgue van might be disposing another body and this man did not want wait or knew that such a service exist… We see/hear people carrying patient on planks, may be no one knew that 108 ambulance seva is there or they could not communicate with the call center people who most speak ‘pure Odia’ hence decided to carry the patient themselves.

We live in a world where doctors don’t like to treat first rather make money, lawyers who don’t uphold law but teach to circumvent it, police who decide what’s right and what’s wrong based on your connection, bank balance and power.
