Odisha Assembly Clears Resolution For Reservation Of Govt School Students In Medical & Engineering Schools

The Odisha Assembly, on Tuesday, cleared a resolution for reservation of students of Government High School students in Medical and Engineering Colleges.

The resolution was presented by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who sought to introduce 15 per cent reservation in medical and engineering colleges for students of government schools.

The reservation was based on the recommendation of a high-power committee headed by Justice AK Mishra.

The Cabinet had proposed the reservation citing inequality in quality education due to financial facilities.

The committee observed that many students from government schools are unable to enroll in the coaching institutions, which play a vital role in entrance examinations. Hence, reservation was necessary.
