Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, one of the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case, will be hanged till death on July 30 inside the Nagpur central jail if the Supreme Court rejects his curative petition on July 21. It will be the first execution in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Memon was sentenced to death in 2007. His review petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court in April 2015.
Yakub Memon’s mercy plea was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee last year. Memon (53) was awarded the death sentence by a Special TADA Court for arranging finances to carry out 13 serial blasts, which left 257 dead and over 700 injured across Mumbai.
