6.7 Aftershock hits Nepal; Tremors across India

Nepal-Quake-USGSWhile Nepal is still reeling under the devastation caused by a 7.9 magnitude earthquake yesterday with the death toll climbing up to 2000, another powerful aftershock with 6.7 on the Richter Scale, created panic in the country. Although Nepal has witnessed around 30 small and big aftershocks so far since yesterday, this is considered as the single largest aftershock.

The epicentre of the aftershock was a place 17 km East of Kodari, which is 110 km away from Kathmandu. The fresh aftershock occurred at around 12:39 IST. The IMD put the magnitude at 6.9, while the USGS put it at 6.7.

Tremors were felt across India, including Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha. In Delhi, the tremors were relatively powerful, while in Odisha, it lasted for 3/4 seconds only. The Metro Trains in Delhi have been stopped temporarily following the tremors.
