Babri Demolition Case: SC issues Notices to Advani, Others

The Supreme Court has issued notices to CBI, veteran BJP leader LK Advani, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kalyan Singh, BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi, Union Minister Uma Bharti and 16 others to respond to a petition filed by Mehboob Ahmed that sought filing of conspiracy charges against these leaders.

The Allahabad High Court had earlier dropped conspiracy charges against these leaders in connection with 1992 Babri demolition case.

These leaders have been given four weeks’ time to respond to the notice. Mehboob Ahmed’s petition wanted all charges against the senior BJP leaders to be restored.

The CBI, which had filed an appeal against the dropping of conspiracy charges against Mr. LK Advani and 20 others, had sought more time to come up with its arguments against the Allahabad High Court order.
