Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi resigns ahead of Trust Vote

Jitan-Ram-ManjhiBihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who was disowned by the JD(U), has resigned this morning in a dramatic manner just a few hours before the much-awaited trust vote. The BJP had already extended support to him, but he failed to get the required numbers.

Manjhi did not want to get defeated on the floor of the House. Thus, he resigned to take high moral ground and passed the ball to Governor’s Court. With Manjhi backing out, Nitish Kumar will stake claims to form the government in Bihar. He has the support of 130 MLAs from JD(U), RJD, Congress and Left. It would be interesting to see what will be the stand of Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi.

It is seen as bigger game plan of the BJP, which is trying to fish in the troubled waters in Bihar. The party did not want to be seen as defeated on the floor of the House. Manjhi has accused the Assembly Speaker of flouting rules and procedures and breaking the traditions. He also alleged that there have been threats to him and his supporter MLAs.
