BJP sweeps Civic Polls in Assam, Congress Stunned

BJPThe BJP got a big relief after the Delhi debacle, as it swept the much important civic polls in Assam for the first time in history. The party has won over 50 out of 74 Municipal bodies.

Out of 42 Municipal Town Committees in Assam, BJP has won around 30, while Congress has won 12. The BJP had only 11 seats in 2009. Out of 32 Municipal Boards, the BJP won 22 seats against just 5 in 2009. The Congress won 9, leaving 1 to AGP.

In 2009, 61% people had exercised their franchise in the Assam Civic Polls. However, there was a massive 72% polling this time, which ensured BJP’s win. The Assembly Polls are due in Assam in 2016.
