CBI gets Custody of West Bengal Minister Madan Mitra

Even though Trinamool Congress leaders and cadres continued to protest against the arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister and Mamata Banerjee’s key aide Madan Mitra in Kolkata and Delhi, the CBI has received his custody till December 19. Madan Mitra is a key accused in Saradha chit fund scam.

The CBI had sought five-day custody of Madan Mitra, but the court granted four-day custody. The agency opposed Mitra’s bail plea, saying it had received certain digital data, which would be sent to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) to get an expert opinion.

The voice samples of Mr. Mitra will be sent for further testing to verify certain evidences collected by the CBI. While seeking bail, Madan Mitra had argued that he was under psychiatric treatment and the custodial stay might cause more mental trauma, putting his life at risk.
