Coalgate: Manmohan Singh questioned by CBI

Manmohan-SinghIn a significant development, it has been revealed that former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was questioned by the CBI officials at his New Delhi residence in connection with coal scam. The questioning took place two days ago, reported PTI.

During the UPA rule, the CBI did not seek Manmohan Singh’s testimony in the coal scam even though he was in charge of Coal ministry when the scam took place. A special court had recently sought Dr. Singh’s examination in connection with a coal scam case relating to allocation of Talabira II block to Hindalco.

The former PM’s role came under the scanner, as it came to light that industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla had written two letters dated May 7, 2005 and June 17, 2005 to Dr. Manmohan Singh, seeking the allocation of Talabira-II coal block to Hindalco. The CBI will have to file a status report before the court by January 27.
