Delhi chants ‘5 Saal Kejriwal’, AAP scores Landslide Win

Kejriwal-GujaratProving all opinion and exit polls right, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) swept Delhi Assembly Polls with a landslide mandate, which came as a big boost for all anti-Modi forces across the country. People in Delhi reposed their trust on ‘Mufflerman’ Arvind Kejriwal and gave him the mandate to rule for five years. AAP is heading towards a 85% majority in Delhi Assembly.

Kejriwal, who had left the Chief Minister’s post just after 49 days in power, had assured the people of Delhi with a slogan, ‘5 Saal Kejriwal’. Delhi eludes BJP yet again. They lost the power in 1998 and has been unable to win it again.

In 2013 polls, BJP had won 32 seats, while AAP had won 28. The Congress won just 8 seats. Congress is heading towards blank this time. They are not leading even in one seat. The party is accused of not trying hard and giving a walkover to AAP in order to defeat BJP and Narendra Modi. On the other hand, Arvind Kejriwal’s party is leading in 67 seats. The BJP is leading only in 3 seats and will lose the Leader of Opposition status. INLD is also leading in one seat.

As per the voting percentage, BJP has retained its vote share at 33%. However, Congress slumped to only 9%, which means AAP got all Congress votes to make it over 53%. Congress Party is losing deposits in more than 90% seats.

Arvind Kejriwal is leading from New Delhi seat, beating his rival and BJP candidate Nupur Sharma. Manish Sisodia is leading in Patparganj seat, defeating BJP candidate Vinod Kumar Binny. Somnath Bharti (Malaviya Nagar), Rakhi Bidlan (Mangolpuri), Alka Lamba (Chandni Chowk), Saurabh Bhardwaj (Greater Kailash) and Gopal Rai (Babarpur) are among the other top AAP leaders, who are winning.

Ajay Maken, Haroon Yusuf, Jagdish Mukhi and many other top leaders in Delhi lost the polls. Kiran Bedi and Krishna Tirath lost the polls. Kiran Bedi lost the polls from Krishna Nagar to SK Bagga from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by over 2,200 votes.

It was a landslide victory for the AAP, the party that lost all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and its candidates lost deposits in over 400 seats across India. They definitely worked hard and convinced the voters of Delhi that only they can change their fortune. Now, it would be interesting to see whether Kejriwal will be able to prove his mettle and live up to the expectations of people of Delhi or not.
