Delhi Law Minister Jitender Tomar used ‘Fake’ Certificate

Jitender-Singh-TomarNew Delhi, April 27 (IANS): A Bihar-based university from where Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar claimed to be enrolled as an advocate and obtained his law degree on Monday told the Delhi High Court that provisional certificate is not “genuine” and the document “does not exist in the university’s record”.

The serial number of the provisional certificate in the record showed the name of some other person and not that of Jitender Tomar, said the Tilak Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bihar.

Placing the inquiry report before Justice Rajiv Shakdher, the university said the provisional certificate is “not genuine” and he got enrolled as an advocate on fabricated document, which was not issued by the university.

The university’s response came on a plea against Tomar which alleged that he had enrolled himself as an advocate on the basis of a “fake and bogus” graduation degree.

Submitting an affidavit to the court, the university said: “It is respectfully submitted that on the basis of the enquiry report, and in the university records, the provisional certificate bearing serial number 3687 was issued on July 29, 1999 to Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary for BA (Honours) Political Science examination held in 1998.”

It added: “Accordingly, the provisional certificate in the name of the Tomar, is fabricated document and does not exist in the records of the university.”

The Bar Council of Delhi also told the court that it had initiated an inquiry into the issue and the matter is pending before it. To this the court asked bar to complete the proceedings expeditiously. The court would hear the plea next on August 20.
