Delhi Assembly Polls on Feb 7, Results on Feb 10

Delhi electionsPutting all speculations into rest, the Election Commission (EC) has announced the dates for Delhi Assembly polls. Polling will be held on February 7 and results will be declared on February 10. The Model Code of Conduct comes into force in Delhi NCR with immediate effect.

At least 1.30 crore voters in Delhi will exercise their franchise in the assembly polls in Delhi. 12 out of 70 seats in Delhi have been reserved, while 11,763 polling booths have been set up for the polling. Micro Observers will be appointed to ensure free and fair polling in Delhi.

As the Delhi Assembly was dissolved on November 4, 2014, the government should be constituted by May 4, 2015 (within six months). But, as the EC sped up the process, a new government in Delhi should take over much earlier than that deadline.

The date of notification for assembly polls will begin from 14th January. Last date of filing nomination, has been fixed for 21st January. The main fight in Delhi will be between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with Congress playing the role of a third force. Many opinion polls have predicted a comfortable majority for the BJP in Delhi.

In 2013 Assembly polls, BJP had won 32 seats, followed by AAP (28) and Congress (8). AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had formed the government with the support of Congress, but quit the government after 49 days to fight the Lok Sabha polls, which he and his party leaders lost very badly. BJP had won all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.
