Giriraj Singh bursts into Tears after PM’s Rebuke

Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Sonia GandhiUnion Minister of State, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Nawada MP Giriraj Singh burst into tears after being pulled up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his “sexist” and “racist” comments against Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Giriraj Singh was seen moving out of the PM’s chamber in tears. The PM reportedly asked Giriraj to explain his comments. Giriraj told the PM he was just quoting a journalist, who made those comments. And, it was done at a private get together. But, the video was leaked to the media and they showed some selective parts only.

The PM reportedly did not buy Giriraj Singh’s clarification, saying it was unbecoming of a Union Minister. He asked Giriraj to exercise restraint and not put the government on back foot with such “irresponsible” and “unwanted” comments. Giriraj became emotional and broke down before the PM. The reporters saw him in tears while Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani was seen consoling him.

The Congress had raised the issue vociferously in Lok Sabha yesterday, forcing Giriraj Singh to express regret in Sonia Gandhi’s presence. Giriraj had quoted a journalist to say, “had Rajiv Gandhi married a Nigerian, she would never become the Congress President. Sonia Gandhi was accepted by the Congress Party only because of her fair skin”.
