Infosys Employee confirmed among Sydney Hostages

InfosysWhile the hostage crisis at Sydney’s Lindt Chcolat cafe continues despite five people escaped from the abductors’ custody, IT giant Infosys has confirmed that one of its employees is among the hostages. Infosys has some 2,500 employees in Australia including Sydney.

“We can confirm that one Infosys employee is among the hostages at the Lindt Cafe in Sydney. We are also confirming the whereabouts of all our other employees there. Sydney. We are in constant touch with authorities and Indian Consulate in Sydney for updates on the situation on ground,” said the company in a statement.

The company has informed the parents of the techie about the incident, but refused to divulge the details. Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu had told the Lok Sabha that one Indian techie was among the 40-odd hostages in Sydney.

The gunman has taken around 40 people as hostages for the last 12 hours or so. TV reports suggest that he had demanded an Islamic State (IS) flag and wanted to talk to Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
