ISIS Twitter Operator Mehdi arrested by Bengaluru Cops

Shami-Witness-MehdiMehdi Masroor Biswas, a 24-year-old Engineer, who originally hails from West Bengal, was arrested by the Bengaluru police for allegedly operating the most influential Twitter account of ISIS (Islamic State).

Mehdi, who denied having any links with ISIS, had passed out from West Bengal Institute of Technology. His father is a retired Assistant Engineer who worked with the West Bengal Electricity Board.

According to Bengaluru police, Mehdi confessed to help ISIS in their recruitment. He was a key source of information for the Islamic terror organisation fighters in Iraq and Syria and helped them wage a war against the Asian countries.

Mehdi handled the Twitter account, @ShamiWitness, which was active since 2012. Now, it has been closed down after the cops swung into action on a tip-off from UK intelligence agencies. Meanwhile, Mehdi’s father dismissed the charges and said that his son’s email account was hacked and he was trapped.

The incident proved beyond doubt that West Bengal has become a hub of jihadi activities. The Burdwan blast was one example. And, now this ISIS incident has been added to it. Although Mehdi operated from Bengaluru, he has his strong roots in West Bengal.
