Narendra Modi to become the 1st Indian PM to visit Israel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a very political sensitive decision to visit Israel, which no Indian PM has ever done. Although Modi visited 19 countries during his first year in office, which included USA, Japan, China, Brazil, Canada, Australia etc, the upcoming Israel visit has raised eyebrows in the political circle.

The dates of Israel visit have not been finalised yet. Israel, the Jewish nation, has been at loggerheads with most of Muslim nations in the Arab World and elsewhere over the issue of Palestine. It would be interesting to see how they respond to Modi’s Israel visit.

Other Prime Ministers of India never dared to visit Israel, fearing backlash from Arab World and Muslim countries. But, Modi’s decision is seen as a strategical one. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has made it clear that she would visit Israel, Palestine and Jordan very soon.

India and Israel have been sharing better economic, defence and strategic relations since 1992, while they share an annual trade volume of about $5 billion.
