Officials recover Rs.5 Lakh Fake Currency from Samjhauta ExpressAttari (Punjab), Aug 10: Customs officials on Monday recovered fake currency with the face value of Rs.5 lakh from a coach of the Samjhauta Express train that had come from Pakistan, officials said here.

The recovery of the fake currency was made when the train was being cleaned by railways staff. The fake currency was in 500-rupee notes.

“The fake currency was hidden in a cavity inside one of the coaches. The matter is being investigated,” a customs official said here.

The bi-weekly Samjhauta Express peace train between India and Pakistan links Lahore city in Pakistan with Attari town, 30 km from Amritsar.

There have been several instances in the past when the train has been used to smuggle drugs, fake currency, weapons and even people from Pakistan.

Earlier this month, a 27-year-old woman from Karachi was arrested after she arrived in the train and managed to go past security and immigration channels without any passport and other documents. (IANS)
