Omar Abdullah loses from Sonawar, wins from Beerwah

Omar-Abdullah-JKJammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, who was earlier declared defeated from Beerwah constituency, won the polls by a narrow victory margin of 910 votes. He polled 23,717 votes, while his opponent Nazir Ahmad Khan (Congress) secured 22,807 votes.

Omar lost from Sonawar by a margin of 4,783 votes. He lost to Mohammad Ashraf Mor of the PDP, who secured 14,283 votes. Omar got 9,500 votes only. Meanwhile, PDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won from Anantnag, Congress leader Salman Soz lost in Baramulla.

National Conference is currently placed third with 16 seats as per the trends received. PDP is ahead in 29 seats, followed by BJP (25), NC (16) and Congress (11). Sajjad Lone’s People’s Conference has one seat. It is believed that PDP and BJP may join hands to form the government in J&K although Congress has unilaterally offered support to the PDP.
