When Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted ‘Jayapur’ in Varanasi under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY), all eyes were focused on the village, which has a population of just 3,205 with women outnumbering men by a huge margin. In the last five months, PM Modi took special care to make Jayapur India’s ‘Smart Village No. 1’.
The village now have 8 bio-toilets, a modern Aanganwadi centre with all facilities for kids and women and one room pucca houses for the poor. Efforts are on to install solar lights to ensure 24/7 power supply to the villagers and provide them with clean drinking water.
Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been a regular visitor to Jayapur ever since the PM has adopted it. His team has been working on a war-footing to fulfill all requirements of the villagers and provide a modern touch to the poor village.
District Magistrate Pranjal Yadav visits Jayapur at least once in a month. The Lekhpal, Tehsildar, BDO and others are regulars to the village. Jayapur now has three banks – State Bank of India, Union Bank and Syndicate Bank.
Jayapur, which hardly received 8-10 hours of power supply per day, now has over 100 solar streetlights. People will be supplied with 600 LED bulbs soon. Eight bio-toilets have already been constructed. Eight more are being to built in the village.
Jayapur’s Vanvasis, a tribal community, have been allotted one-room pucca houses. 14 lucky tribal families will soon move in to their new houses. The colony has been named as ‘Atal Nagar’.
The houses will have a kitchen, bathroom, latrine, wash-basin, solar lights and running water supply.
The old primary school has been renovated and got a new look. A new bus stop is coming up at Jayapur soon. A 20,000-litre overhead water tank is being built.
Every household will get water connection with the next 6-8 months. RSS cadres have been entrusted with the work of making all efforts to see that Jayapur remains No. 1 smart village in the country.
