President Pranab Mukherjee extended his greetings to women on Sunday on the occasion of International Women’s Day. “I pay tribute to all women who have given this nation their invaluable gift of labour and love,” Mukherjee tweeted.
“Let us ensure that honour and respect is accorded to women at all times,” he said.”Let us on International Women’s Day apply ourselves to the goal of bettering the lives and prospects of women of India,” he said.
The celebration of International Women’s Day is an opportunity to renew our commitment to the security and welfare of women, he said. “Women have played an extraordinary role in shaping the destiny of the nation,” he said.

Citing that “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana” seeks to usher in a paradigm shift in attitudes towards the girl child and place emphasis on educating the girl child, he added that the “Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana” would provide support for marriage and education of young women.
He said that MUDRA Bank would help thousands of women achieve financial independence. Referring to broadbased social security schemes such as the “Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana”, “Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Bima Yojana” and the “Atal Pension Yojana”, which were presented in the union budget, he said these would immensely benefit women.
