President Pranab Mukherjee rejects Yakub Memon’s 2nd Mercy Plea

President Pranab Mukherjee has rejected the fresh mercy petition filed by Yakub Memon. The decision was taken following the four-hour-long meeting between President Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Home Secretary and Solicitor General were present at the meeting.

The President had rejected the first mercy petition filed by Memon’s family members in May 2014. Yakub will be hanged inside the Nagpur Central Jail tomorrow between 6 and 7 AM.

Earlier, Yakub Memon’s lawyers tried to move the Supreme Court in a desperate attempt to save him. In a late night move, they challenged the Maharashtra Governor’s decision and termed Yakub as mentally unstable, but in vain.
