Renuka Chowdhury faces SC/ST Atrocities case

Renuka ChoudharyThe Telangana Police in Khammam district have registered a case of cheating and also under Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act against Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury on complaint made by a tribal woman Bukya Kalavati.

Kalavati alleged that Renuka Chowdhury took Rs. 1.10 crores from her husband late Ramji by making false promise to secure party ticket from Wyra ST Assembly constituency during last general elections.

The tribal woman also alleged that her husband died of brain hammerage due to mental trauma after he landed in a debt trap. Police filed a case under sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code and investigating the case.

The First Information Report, which was registered on March 16, alleges that the bribe was paid on May 30, 2013. Elections in undivided Andhra Pradesh were held along with the national elections in May last year.

The Congress won just 18 of Telangana’s 119 assembly seats, with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti winning 73 and forming government. The Wyra seat was won by the TRS.
