More than 232 kgs of heroin worth Rs 600 crore and six cell phones and satellite phones have been seized in a joint operation by the Indian Navy and Coastguard off the coast of Porbandar in Gujarat yesterday. The Pakistani Boat was taken into custody and eight Pakistani nationals were arrested.
The Coastguard also intercepted two Indian trawlers near the Pakistani boat, which was on a mission to hand over the narcotic consignments. Investigations are underway over their possible links with terrorists. Efforts are on to identify those who were supposed to receive the consignment.
This is the second such incident off the Gujarat coast in the recent months. Earlier, a suspected Pakistani boat was blown up by the crew on board when the Coastguard intercepted them and asked to stop.
