Union Budget: MNREGA allocation rises to Rs.5,000 crore

Union Budget 2015-16The government will enhance the allocation to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) scheme by Rs.5,000 crore, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Saturday presenting union budget.

“The government will enhance the allocation to MNREGA by Rs.5,000 crore,” he said in his budget speech in parliament.

The MNREGA scheme, started by the previous Congress-led government, is a social security measure that seeks to guarantee right to work in rural areas.

The government Saturday announced the launch of a National Skill Mission to develop youth employability, especially for those below 25 years of age.

“National Skill Mission to be launched, to develop employability of youth, especially below 25 years of age,” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said while presenting the union budget in parliament.

He also announced Nayi Manzil, a scheme to enable minority youth without school leaving certificates, to get employment. (IANS)
