2002 Hit-and-Run Case: Salman Khan held Guilty

Hit-and-Run Case - Salman KhanMumbai, May 6 (IANS): Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan has been found guilty on Wednesday in the 2002 hit-and-run case by a Sessions Court here. Salman may have to face a jail term of up to 10 years when the judges pronounce quantum of sentence. Salman broke down after hearing the verdict.

Delivering the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge D.W. Deshpande said: “You were driving the car,” adding Salman was under the influence of alcohol and behind the wheels without a licence. He said all charges stood proven.

On September 28, 2002, Salman’s Toyota Land Cruiser rammed into a roadside bakery in Bandra West, close to his seafront home in Galaxy Apartments, leaving four people sleeping outside injured. One of them died later.

Hours before the verdict, #WeLoveYouSalmanKhan and #SalmanVerdict were trending on Twitter. Relatives and friends from Bollywood, including Shah Rukh Khan, were seen visiting Khan on Wednesday night. Before stepping out of the home this morning, Salman met his father Salim Khan and hugged him. Salman’s sister Alvira was seen crying in the court premises when the verdict was delivered.

Salman is facing two other cases in Rajasthan for allegedly poaching endangered animals and possessing arms without a valid licence.
