Shashi Kapoor to get Dadasaheb Phalke Award, 2014

Shashi KapoorVeteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor will be honoured the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, 2014 for his contribution in Indian cinema.

Yesteryear’s heart-throb Shashi Kapoor, born as Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor on 18 March 1938, recently celebrated his 77th birthday. He started his career as a child artist with his brother’s film ‘Awara’, went on to feature in movies like Deewaar, Kabhie Kabhie, Silsila and Namak Halaal , Kala Patthar, Shaan, Trishul and many more iconic box-office hit movies..

The versatile actor also produced critically acclaimed movies like Junoon, Kalyug, 36 Chowringhee Lane, Vijeta and Utsav and directed Ajooba starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Kapoor, who has featured in over 160 movies, won three National Awards in 1979, 1986 and 1994. He was also presented with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

The actor was honoured with the Padma Bhusan in 2011 by the Govt. of India.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is conferred for lifetime contribution to cinema. It is considered to be the highest official recognition for film personalities. Last year’s the award went to lyricist, poet Gulzar.
