Yukttaa Rakshit ‘Swayamsidha’ – Power-packed Beauty

There are many Bengali beauties that left an impression in Ollywood in the recent years. Mostly, they used to be soft and typical. But, this girl has beaten the stereotypes. With her ‘Maa Durga’ avatar, she had proved her mettle in the debut film, “Swayamsidha” five years ago. The 5’6″ Karate Girl, Yukttaa Rakshit, not only showed her acting skills, but also led the way by delivering powerful punches and kicks.

Here are the Excerpts from an Interview with Yukttaa Rakshit:

TNI: How did you get a break in “Swayamsidha”?

YR: It’s because of my power and strength as well as physique. The lead female character in the movie required physical skills. My Karate skills as well as ability to perform stunts, worked in my favor. The only problem was lack of knowledge in Odia language. But, I watched Odia news and the movies of Siddhant-Rachana. Then, it became easier for me.
TNI: What were the Key Challenges you faced during the shooting of the Film?

YR: There was a scene where I had to cross from one hill to another with the help of a 200 sq. ft. long rope. It was a difficult stunt, but I did it.

 

TNI: Swayamsidha was released almost 5 years ago. Why did not you act in any other film?

YR: I am not doing any movie; that does not mean I am not recognized. People still call me ‘Swayamsidha’ wherever I go. I feel happy that they remember and appreciate my work. May be you will see me on the Silver Screen very soon (smile).

 

TNI: What are the other movies you have done?

YR: I have done Malayalam movie “Chitra” and “Prabah” in Marathi. Now I am writing the script for a Bollywood movie. I will act in that movie too.

TNI: Share some pleasant and memorable moments from the movie “Swayamsidha”.

YR: “Swayamsidha” was based on the theme of Maoist activities. When I was shooting for this movie in Malkangiri , I got a chance to meet Maoists by chance. The whole shooting set could hear the sound of gunshots,  which I cannot forget.

 

TNI: What kind of movie you want to do?

YR: I want to do movies, which will give message to the society. I like Aamir Khan’s concept very much.

 

TNI: Tell us something about your hobbies?

YR: I like to write Novels.I have written a Novel ‘Atit’  in Bengali.

 

TNI: Who is favourite Odia Actress?

YR: Mahasweta.

 

TNI: What is your message to Odia Film Industry?

YR: I would like to suggest Anubhav and Babushan not to do only commercial movies, but also movies of different genre. There should be more female-centric movies in Ollywood.

 

TNI: Do you believe given a chance, women can prove themselves better than men?

YR: No chance required. Women are indeed better than men in all aspects if there is a challenge involved. Yes, I believe in equality, but I don’t back off when challenged. I respect those men, who give equal respect to women. But, I keep others at their right place – under my feet, if they disregard me just because of my gender. At any point of time, I can make them fall to the ground and grovel at my feet.

 

TNI: The Ultimate Goal in Life?

YR: My ultimate aim is to work for society. And, movies are the mirror of the society. So, I prefer novels and movies to spread the message and work hard for the welfare of people in need.
