Adivasi Ekta Parab 2014 held in Koraput

Adivasi-Ekta-Parab1More than six hundreds representatives from thirty four indigenous tribes of the state assembled and emphasized the importance of Language in bringing harmony and shaping identity among tribal communities in a recently held three days Tribal fest called Adivasi Ekta Parab in Ektaguda, Koraput.

Supported by Advivasi Sangathan Samanwaya Samiti and voluntary organization ActionAid,the programme witnessed the testimony and a visual treat of various forms of tribal dances, traditional costumes, songs and worshiping of their deities in the fest.

The programme was attended by Linguist Dr. Mahendra Kumar Mishra, Dr. Chitta Ranjan Kar and Dr. Rajendra Padhy who highlighted the importance of language and literature towards revival of tribal and other indigenous communities. They put lights on the crucial role of tribals towards enriching their language and protecting from being extinction. They also opined that such fest would bring to fore many ideas, knowledge on the tribal communities.

Adivasi-Ekta-Parab2During this fest, the scripts of tribal languages and books were exhibited and two books on language of the Saura and Gadba tribes were released. The fest also raised concerns on the extinction of the local languages, dialects of the indigenous tribes and the need to accelerate our strategy and focus towards its revival and booming from Government and other responsible agencies.  It is important to include here that the tribals have been raising the ante for mother-tongue based education and demanding that the culturally appropriate contents generated through social history documentation by adivasi groups themselves inform the contents of school curriculum.

The programme was organised by RITES Forum, Malkangiri and Adivasi Ekta Sangathan, Koraput and attended by representatives of the organizing and supporting agencies.

Convener of the Adivasi Ekta Sangathan Mr. Malana Pidika moderated the fest and gave formal vote of thanks to all for their presence, active participation and solidarity to make this fest successful.
