Indian Red Cross organizes 1st FMR Volunteers' TrainingBhubaneswar, May 28: The Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch with the support of National Head Quarter New Delhi, aims to develop a cadre of First Medical Responder at State level through a series of training programmes, enhancing the capacity of communities to respond to emergency situations. These volunteers and staffs were trained and equipped to address needs of their local communities, providing first aid, water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, public health and psychological support.

Today, Odisha State Branch is organised Refresher First Medical Responder training programme for FMR volunteers at Red Cross Bhavan, Bhubaneswar with the objective to enhance the capacity of Red Cross volunteers and communities to deliver emergency health services during disaster and health emergencies by developing a cadre of First Medical Responders.

The training programme inaugurated by Sri Govinda Chandra Mahunta, Honorary Joint Secretary, IRCS-OSB as Chief Guest and highlighted about the objective and outcome of the training programme. Dr. Debadatta Satpathy, Youth Red Cross Officer joined as the Guest of Honour and told to the participants what are the work & responsibilities as a volunteers towards society. Sri Bijaya Kumar Mohapatro, DM Coordinator, IRCS-OSB gave the welcome address in this programme. More than 50 Volunteers from Jagatsinghpur, Khordha & Puri district participated in the training programme.

Participants were trained on First Medical Responder, Basic First Aid, Safe handling & transporting of the casualty, basic life support, psychological support, TRIAGE in emergency, coordination mechanism, contingency planning, Restoring Family Link and Sanitation & Hygiene promotion in the training programme. Dr. Bikas Prasad & Dr. Jasobanta Narayan Jena trained to the participants as resource persons. At the end of the session Sri Bijay Kumar Khatua, Disaster Preparedness Supervisor offer vote of thanks on this occasion.
