Kalinganagar Tata Power organises Income Generation Program
Bhubaneshwar, Sep 26: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always endeavoured to improve the quality of life of the communities living in and around its project areas. In line with this philosophy, Tata Power’s Kalinganagar plant has initiated an Income Generation Program for the local community women with an aim to provide them with a sustainable livelihood and make them self-dependent.
The objective of this initiative is to empower women to increase their individual family household income by equipping them with the required skills through training and capacity building programmes. The project spans three GPs, namely Jakhapura, Mantira and Pankapal, including Tata Power Kalinganagar’s adopted village Arasahi. 5 Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed in the Arashi village to economically empower the community. To enhance the knowledge of the women SHGs about group activity and income generation, the Tata Power team conducted 6 sessions in Arasahi village to discuss various income generation programs. Tata Power also plans to set up an Agarbati Production Centre in the arashi village to boost the livelihood options of the local community.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Vijayant Ranjan, Chief- Kalinganagar Station, Tata Power, stated, “Tata Power follows its sustainability model, and is committed to the cause of community development. Women are at the center of building the social capital of India and their development is synonymous with India’s development. The Income Generation programme for the rural women has been initiated to enable them to become independent. We intend to organise further such initiatives in the future as well.”
Tata Power’s Self Help Group initiative has been a successful model in various areas. The Company has always aimed to boost the community’s prosperity through such initiatives and provide the impetus for development of entrepreneurship amongst women which will assist them in enhancing their income.
